“Do we have the authority to command angels?”

At the time I lived as a ‘disciple’ in a Cult Community called the Synagogue “church” of all nations Lagos Nigeria. Fatai Balogun, who turned to be called TbJoshua make use of what he said to be ‘angels’, either during his weekly service or privately.

Most time in the “disciples” meetings, he made us to understand that there were some merciless beings that follows him around, therefore, people around him must live with him with care. He said, these beings are in possession of anti-ballistic artilleries, such as Bomb, stones, daggers, spears, guns, dynamites, boiling water, hot oil, etceteras to deal decisively with anyone who acted, speaks, prays, writes, thinks against him.

He also said that during weekly service time, these beings usually multiplies to invade synagogue auditorium to help him accomplish his task as he summons and command them on what to do. He said he designates some of them to follow his members home. What surprises me most was that these beings are always no where to be found whenever he cajole, forcefully or brainwash female ‘disciples’ or members to have sex with him in the synagogue.

During this naive period of mine and others, we believed everything Fatai Balogun alias TbJoshua said to be true because we do not know what the Scriptures says concerning this teachings.

NOW, WHAT DID THE SCRIPTURE SAYS?

People today are fascinated by the concept and study of angels, called “angelology.” Angels are depicted in everything from jewelry and Christmas decorations to movies and television programs. Many Christians also believe they have the authority to command angels to do their bidding, while others believe they can command angels in the name of Jesus Christ.
Let us take a closer look at the  earthly ministry of Our Lord Jesus Christ to learn and emulates His pattern as a prototype for our daily life.  There is no doubt about Angelic activities in regard to Jesus’ life. As a Royal, we read in the Scripture that Angel announced His coming Luke 1:31-33, and also His grand entrance into the earth as a human was heralded.  “Then the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid, for behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy which will be to all people. For there is born to you this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord.”
Luke 2:10-11 NKJV
They also ministered to Him when His obedience to the Father was completed in the wilderness of trials and temptation, laying down example for us that if Jesus overcome trials, it is possible for everyone of us to overcome. Matthew 4:11 “Then the devil left Him, and behold, angels came and ministered to Him.”
In all these, Did He at any time commanded, influence or summoned Angels to offer assistant of any kind to Him? The Angels that attended Him were not in possession of dangerous weapons, He would have told the Apostles. So, The answer is No.

When Jesus was arrested, it was a great opportunity for Him as The Lord of the Universe to array and assembled a battalion of heavenly host for the most deadly war of the Ages, and onslaught of His enemies; though He had the authority to do so but He did not summon them to defend Him, rather He choose to remain a servant to fulfil His mission. He only made it known to His arresters “Or do you think that I cannot now pray to My Father, and He will provide Me with more than twelve legions of angels?” Matthew 26:53 NKJV
In His words He showed that only the Father has the authority over His Angels, If the Son of God looked to His Father for constant help, why should any of us take laws into our hands?
I truly doubt if those who claims they summons Angels have interactions with the Holy Angels of God. They could be having dealings knowingly or unknowingly with demons, and disembodied mystical spirits because no genuine Angel of God will abandon his post to take orders from a mortal, except being sent.
Any angel that carries out work without God’s backing has automatically turned himself to a rebel and eventually becomes a demon. To further establish this exertions, the Book of Jude speaks of some angels who did not conform to Divine authority, rather choose to follow their own way, “And the angels who did not keep their proper domain, but left their own abode, He has reserved in everlasting chains under darkness for the judgment of the great day.”
Jude 1:6 NKJV
Angel Gabriel says he stands in the presence of God until God sends him on assignment.
There are no exemplary passages either in the Old Testament or in the New Testament where a man controlled the work of angels in the Bible. We do know that they are beings of swifter nature, yet, God knows how He has positions them, anyone who break ranks among them will be noticed in no time.

The strange teachings that believers have control over Angels of God is false, erroneous and demonic. I know and I have been to some “churches” that calls on the presence of Angels during their services, I am amazed. Holy Spirit’s presence must be our desires, but if God choose to send His Angels to our gatherings for special assignment, it is to His Glory. We are not gathering unto angels, but the Scripture says, “unto Him who lives and abides forever shall be the gathering of His people be.” The following biblical principles show that angels do not obey the commands of men:
Moses spoke of when the children of Israel “cried out to the LORD, He heard our cry, and sent an angel, and brought us out of Egypt” (Numbers 20:16 ). The Israelites did not command an angel to come to them. They appealed to God, under whose command the angels function.
Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego refused to bow down to Nebuchadnezzar’s image (Daniel 3:17-18 ). God in His mercy “sent his angel and rescued His servants!” (Daniel 3:28 ). The three Hebrews did not summon the angel of the Lord. God sent him. God later “sent His angel” to deliver Daniel from the mouths of the lions in their den (Daniel 6:22 ).
“The church in Jerusalem prayed for Peter when he was in prison” (Acts 12:5 ). When Peter was delivered, he testified, “Now I know without a doubt that the Lord sent His angel and rescued me from Herod’s clutches and from everything the Jewish people were anticipating” (Acts 12:11 ). The Christians praying for Peter were so surprised when he came to their door that they almost did not let him in. Certainly, they had not commanded any angel to rescue him.
Angels are called God’s “holy angels,” who do His bidding, not ours Matthew 25:31 ; Revelation 14:10.
Angels are God’s erranders, in a city of Galilee, named Nazareth God sent His Angel to deliver message to a young virgin Luke 1.
God sent His Angel to Manoah’s wife who was barren Judges 13.
God sent His Angels to Sodom and Gomorrah to destroyed the city because of their evil works, and these Angels stopped at Abraham’s village to deliver message to him Genesis 18.
God sent His Angel to feed Elijah, “Then as he lay and slept under a broom tree, suddenly an angel touched him, and said to him, “Arise and eat.” IKings 19:5 NKJV
God sent His Angel to Daniel to make him understand secrets, Daniel 9.

King Hezekiah prayed unto God over Rabshekel threats of annihilation, which started from Isaiah 36, and culminated in Isaiah 37:36 when God sent only one Angel to expires the lives of 185,000 combat ready Assyrian army.

Over time, in visions, dreams and physically, people have seen and talked to Angels of God that are been sent to them for one reason or the other. These Angels of God visits, they do not take permanent residence among men.
Cornelius was visited by an Angel to receive specific instructions of Salvation, Acts. 10. Why could the Angel not give Cornelius the message directly, I believe he would be able to say it better than Peter. The Angel could not because Christ did not died for him, and he did not experienced conversion like Peter. He stopped where his assignment stopped.

NAMES OF ANGELS
It is also very worrisome to hear some people mentioning different names supposedly to be for Angels, one will like to asked them where these names were written in the Bible. The Holy Bible is God’s Revelation to man, whatever that is not in the Bible must not be part of our life’s guardians.
We know there are uncountable Angels, and for identifications they will have names, but there were only two names of Angels revealed to us in the Bible, Michael and Gabriel. We must desist from formulating names for angels, whatever spiritual panorama we experience that has no conformity with the laid down in the Bible must be discarded. Jesus also said that Holy Spirit will bear witness of what He hears from Him, John 16.

Starting in the Book of Daniel 9 & 10, we heard of these names; also in the New Testament, Book of Luke chapter 1, we were introduced again to Gabriel, who was very proud of his job. He said to Zechariah, the priest, “I am Gabriel, who stand in the presence of God, and I have been sent to speak to you and bring you glad tidings” Luke 1: 19
We have also heard of Michael in the Book of Daniel and in the Book of Jude 1:9 as an archangel. Apart from these passages, there is no other places in the Bible where other names of Angels are been mentioned. They are always sent, they do not do the biddings of men. The psalmist said in Ps. 91: 11 that God will send/command His Angel to watch over you.
The Book of Hebrews1:14 called them ministering spirits, sent to us. “Are they not all ministering spirits sent (not summon or invited) forth to minister for those who will inherit salvation?” Hebrews 1:14 NKJV

GUARDIAN ANGEL
It cannot be emphatically answered from Scripture whether or not each believer has a guardian angel assigned to him/her. But, as stated earlier, God does use angels in ministering to us. It is scriptural to say that He uses them as He uses us; that is, He in no way needs us or them to accomplish His purposes, but chooses to use us and them nevertheless (Hebrews 1:7 ). In the end, whether or not we have an angel assigned to protect us, we have an even greater assurance from God: if we are His children through faith in Christ, He works all things together for our good (Romans 8:28-30 ), and Jesus Christ will never leave us or forsake us (Hebrews 13:5-6 ). If we have an omniscient, omnipotent, all-loving God with us, does it really matter whether or not there is a finite guardian angel protecting us?
Angels are not our servants. Now it is very clear that what Fatai Balogun (tbJoshua) and his likes are using are not God’s holy Angels, because it is not given unto man to summons, controls the Angels of God, except for the fallen ones called demons, disembodied spirits that are everywhere in the atmosphere, ready to be engaged because they are jobless roaming vagabonds like their master, satan.
God bless.

Freely give!
